Prologue
A crisp, cool chill broke through my jacket. Leaves of crimson and yellow hit me in the face, a punishment I didn't need at that moment. Tears fell from my cheeks and created ripples in the water below me. I sat there, at the edge of the lake, hugging my knees as I stared at my own reflection. My sight was blurry with astigmatism and sadness. I squinted in order to see that my hair was dark, almost black. My skin pale, almost like the snow that would surely fall soon, and my eyes were almost as dark as my hair.
